Summer 2024
Book Study
2024 Summer Book Study
What: Students will meet in an online platform to engage with a certified English teacher to analyze literature. (To learn more about Michelle, visit her website HERE). Students will hone their critical reading, analytical writing, and communication skills as they learn to read with a purpose, understand the author’s purpose, analyze how the author’s style develops themes, engage in meaningful discussions using outside sources, and strengthen their analytical writing through formal writing assignments. It is my goal that students will be able to read one novel in our time together and complete a formal writing assignment. Much of the reading will take place outside of the class, whereas the discussions and analysis will be completed during class time.
Why: While summer is a much-needed opportunity for students to take a breather and relax, students often academically regress over the summer. Therefore, to balance “fun in the sun” and academic strengths, it is imperative to continue to practice critical thinking skills and engage in meaningful and thought-provoking learning opportunities.
Who: Any students entering 7th through 12th grade can join a session. I would like to have a minimum of 8 students per session. Be sure to share with your friends. Sometimes it is more fun to learn in a group, especially when reading a novel.
When: This is a 5-week program beginning the week of June 17th and ending the week of July 15th. Sessions will take place once a week on Mondays typically. We will address times to accommodate the most students based on time zones once registration is complete.
Costs: This 5-week book study costs $300 per student. Payment must be provided at the start of the session. Parents/Guardians are responsible for providing copies of the novels or borrow them from a local library. If a student misses class, there is no refund for the individual session. However, I would gladly do my best to meet with the student or catch up with them at another time if possible.
